2014 RELIGIOUS EMBLEMS BOARDS OF REVIEW & SCOUT MASS

The Boards of Review for the Marian, Spirit Alive, Adult and Unit Awards recommendations will be held on March 15th at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Sandy Springs at 9:00 A.M.  This is the only board that we have scheduled before the Scout Mass so please have everyone at this board of review.  The candidates should bring their workbooks completely filled out and signed.  Leave the application in the book; be sure it has all required signatures.
They will also need to bring the fees for the awards (check new prices) in cash or check made payable to the Catholic Committee on Scouting, and the completed program evaluation in a sealed, pre-addressed, stamped envelope.  Please send Tom and Jackie Welch a list of all candidates coming before the boards.  Include the email address of the counselor so we may notify you of any changes.
All Adult and Unit recommendations should be forwarded to Jackie and Tom Welch not later than March 1, 2014 for Committee review before the boards.

The Scout Mass will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Flowery Branch, Georgia, with Archbishop Wilton Gregory presiding at 12:00 P.M. (noon) on April 12th, 2014.  All scouts should be present to register as a unit with your counselor not later than 11:00 A.M. in case Archbishop Gregory wants to meet with the scouts.  We will line up for procession into mass at 11:30 A.M.  If a scout cannot attend the mass please let Tom and Jackie Welch know so their award can be held out and sent to the counselor for presentation at their home parish.  A reception will follow immediately after the mass for all attendees and families.

If units or leaders have any questions please e-mail Tom and Jackie Welch as soon as possible to solve any problems that may arise. We look forward to a great Scout Mass for 2014 and thank all the scouts for their participation, the counselors for working with the scouts, and parents for your support of the scouting religious emblems programs.

Yours in Catholic Scouting,

Tom and Jackie Welch

Family of God

The Family of God program is the official religious recognition program of the Roman Catholic Church in the U.S.A. for children ages 7-9, who are enrolled in the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., Camp Fire USA, and The Junior Catholic Daughters of the Americas. The Family of God is an activity series developed to complement the catechetical efforts of the parish and families with children in the second and third grades.

This program is an activity-based program for girls in the 2nd and 3rd grade. It calls girls to recognize and discover the presence of God in their day-to-day lives. Each activity and chapter calls the girl to see God in her own family as well as the family of God.

The program generally takes 3 to 4 months for completion. After completion of program, the application with all required signatures is sent with $12.00 to Girl Scout Awards Chairs, Jackie and Tom Welch, 404-245-9635. Most girls are presented the medals in their home parish at a Sunday Mass.  Please make your check payable to The Catholic Committee On Scouting.

I live My Faith

The I Live My Faith program is designed to help Girl Scouts and Camp Fire members, ages 9-12, appreciate more deeply the place that God and religion occupy in their daily life.

This program calls girls to live their Catholic faith who are in the 4th through 6th grade. "I Live My Faith" is organized in project units that call girls to grow and mature as Catholics. The program generally takes about 4 to 6 months for completion.

Marian Medal

Through Mary, the First Disciple (Marian Medal), young Catholics (ages 12-16) will grow in appreciation of Mary and in understanding themselves. They will meet Mary in Scripture as a young teenager and will follow her journey as she becomes a woman and the Mother of God.

This program calls girls to live their Catholic faith who are in the 7th through 10th grade. The program is written to enable girls to "Proclaim the greatness of the Lord" with activities bringing them to an understanding of Mary as the model of openness and spiritually – woman of the Church.  The program allows girls to grow in an understanding of her Catholic faith and its rich traditions.

The Marian is presented at the Archdiocesan Scouting Mass in the Spring.  Upon completion of the Marian program all girls must attend a Board of Review with the Catholic Committee on Scouting. Girls should bring their workbook, completed application, evaluation and $12.00 fee with them to the Board of Review. Contact Jackie and Tom Welch at 404-245-9635 to schedule.  Please make your check payable to The Catholic Committee On Scouting.

The Spirit Alive

The Spirit Alive program is designed for Catholic youth in high school who are in the Senior level of Girl Scouts and American Heritage Girls or are Horizon Club members of Camp Fire. It assists them in discovering how the Holy Spirit moves in their lives, calling them to greater participation in the church’s ministry.

This program calls girls who are in the 9th through 12th grade to live their Catholic faith. The program calls the older girls to better understand the Holy Spirit in their lives and who Sprit is calling them to be. Girls are asked to consider their call and vocation in the church and opportunities for ministry.   The Spirit Alive is presented at the Archdiocesan Scouting Mass in Spring.  Upon completion of "The Spirit Alive" program all girls must attend a Board of Review with the Catholic Committee on Scouting. Girls should bring their workbook, completed application, evaluation and $12.00 fee with them to the Board of Review.
